FAQ’s

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a safe, natural state of focused relaxation where your mind becomes more receptive to helpful suggestions. You remain fully aware and in control the whole time. It’s similar to daydreaming or becoming absorbed in a good book.

You can’t be made to do anything you don’t want to do — and no clucking like a chicken involved!

What does hypnosis feel like?

Most people describe it as feeling deeply relaxed but still aware. Some feel light and floaty, others feel calm and grounded. There’s no “right” way to experience hypnosis — everyone’s brain responds slightly differently.

Is Hypnotherapy safe?

Yes. Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy is a gentle, evidence-informed approach. You remain in control throughout the session and can bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time.

I am fully accredited by the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH), fully insured, and hold an Enhanced DBS certificate.

How does hypnotherapy work?

Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy combines practical talking therapy with gentle hypnosis.

We focus on:

  • Where you want to be (rather than endlessly revisiting the past)

  • Small, realistic steps forward

  • Calming your nervous system

  • Strengthening helpful thought patterns

Hypnosis allows your brain to enter a natural trance-like state (similar to daydreaming), where the subconscious mind is more open to positive change.

Sessions may draw on tools from CBT and NLP to reshape unhelpful thinking and build confidence, clarity, and emotional resilience.

I offer hypnotherapy in Bristol (Clifton) and online across the UK.

What can hypnotherapy help with?

Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy can support:

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Panic attacks

  • OCD patterns and intrusive thoughts

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Low confidence and self-esteem

  • Burnout and overwhelm

  • Phobias and fears

  • Life transitions

If you’re unsure whether hypnotherapy is right for you, you’re welcome to book a free consultation to talk it through.

Is hypnotherapy suitable for neurodivergent clients?

Yes. Many of the people I work with are neurodivergent (diagnosed or self-identified), including those with ADHD or autistic traits.

Sessions are flexible, collaborative, and shaped around how your brain works best. There’s no pressure to mask or explain yourself.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients benefit from around 8–14 sessions, though this varies depending on your goals and what you’re working through.

Some people notice shifts quickly. Others choose to continue longer for deeper or ongoing support. We’ll review progress regularly and move at a pace that feels right for you.

Are online sessions as effective as in-person sessions?

Yes. Many clients find online hypnotherapy just as effective as face-to-face sessions.

Working online allows you to feel comfortable in your own space and removes travel time. In-person sessions are also available at The Clifton Practice in Bristol if you prefer a face-to-face setting.

Will I lose control?

No. You remain fully aware and in control during hypnosis. You can hear everything being said and can stop at any time.

Hypnosis is a collaborative process — not something done to you.
